Advertising on Mostly-Victorian.com

Mostly-Victorian.com is a unique destination for lovers of Victoriana and the Victorian period. Whether your interests lie in Victorian history, royalty, fashion, decor, arts and crafts, women's issues, or classic tales such as the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, this site has something for you. This site offers thousands of pages of information drawn directly from Victorian periodicals and books -- information not available anywhere else on the Web.

Besides making this site a treasury of Victoriana that can be found nowhere else, we also seek to create a one-stop-shopping marketplace experience for lovers of Victoriana. For those who seek to bring the richness and beauty of the Victorian style into their homes and lives, this will be the place to visit -- for Victorian prints, books, reprints, decor, gifts, jewelry, Christmas items, costumes, crafts and so much more.

Why Advertise With Us?

A listing on Mostly-Victorian.com will enable you to reach lovers of Victoriana around the world. Our primary criteria is that a product or service be related to Victoriana.

While this is a new site, its editor has more than 10 years' experience developing successful, high-traffic website, including:

Writing-World.com
Founded in 2001; now receiving 1.3 million visitors per year!
TimeTravel-Britain.com
Founded in 2005; now receiving nearly 375,000 visitors per year
The Pet Loss Support Page
Now receiving more than 200,000 visitors per year.

Needless to say, we hope that Mostly-Victorian.com will bring in similar numbers -- numbers that will get you noticed!

At the same time, in today's economy, we recognize the need to keep ad rates low, especially as so many of you, like us, are "cottage industries" who need to get the most value for their advertising dollar. Therefore, we're offering a special introductory rate to advertisers who sign up before we officially "go public."

Our Introductory Offer

Mostly-Victorian.com is scheduled to "go public" on September 1 (i.e., that's when we'll officially start promoting to the general reader). We'd like to have our "marketplace" fully in place by that time, so we're offering a special discount rate to advertisers who'd like to sign on before our "launch."

Here's the deal: Sign up before September 1, and you'll receive six months of advertising for only $50, plus a guaranteed first renewal of your listing for the same low rate. (After September 1, our six-month rate will rise to $75.)

Plus, the earlier you sign up, the better position you'll receive for your listing. Listings will be posted on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you'd like to be at the top of the page in your category, sign up now! The clock won't start "ticking" on your listing until September 1, so if you sign up earlier, you'll actually end up with a month or two of "free" advertising, as we plan to post listings as they are received.

Marketplace listings will be grouped under subject categories, including (but not limited to):

Home Decor · Gifts · Jewelry · Prints & Artwork · Clothes & Costumes (including patterns) · Books · Christmas Items · Tea & Food Products · Antiques · Services · Other...

Please feel free to suggest a category! Advertisers may post a listing in more than one category; you'll receive a 50% discount on each identical listing (i.e., same text and image). (Unique listings in different categories are full-price.)

What It Looks Like:

Listings in the Victorian Marketplace will be grouped under appropriate subject headings (see above), and consist of a product image or logo and a paragraph of description. Unlike some other "Victorian malls," you can provide up to 100 words about your product -- enough to give readers vital information about what you have to offer. To attract readers to the Marketplace, selected images from each category will be displayed in the left column of the site, linking back to the marketplace pages. These "teaser" links will appear throughout the site.

Here's an example of how a listing in the Victorian Marketplace will look:

BRIGHTEN YOUR DESKTOP with a gorgeous screensaver featuring more than 50 images of Victorian stained glass! These beautiful, colorful "lights" come from such notable churches as Salisbury Cathedral, Bath Abbey, and Wiltshire's Victorian-era Italianate church in Wilton. These stained glass images will truly "bring your monitor to light" -- in fact, once your screensaver kicks in, you may find it hard to stop watching and get back to work! All images are original photographs by writer/editor/photographer Moira Allen. Only $10! To order, please visit http://www.timetravel-britain.com/adm/screensaver.shtml.

Sign Up Early for the Best Position!

During our introductory period, new listings will be posted on a first-come, first-served basis. For example, if you are the first person to sign up under the category of "prints," your listing will appear at the top of the page. The second person to sign up under that category will appear in the next slot, and so on.

After our launch, new listings will be posted at the beginning of each month. New listings will be posted at the top of the page, again in the order received, while older listings rotate downward. Renewals will be posted back to the top of the page, again in the order received; this ensures that your ad will always have a chance of moving back to the top over time.

At present, we are offering six-month listings only. Advertisers will be sent a renewal notice approximately a month before their listing expires.

Right now we are only offering "Marketplace" listings. After the site has become established and we have a better idea of traffic figures, we will offer banner listings on specific content pages (e.g., under "decor" or "cooking"). If you are interested in a banner listing on a particular page, please contact us and we'll put you on the list for information when it becomes available. (We will not be offering "text" listings, e.g., like Google AdSense ads, outside the Marketplace section.)

General Terms and Conditions:

  1. All products and/or services must relate in some way to Victoriana or the Victorian period.

  2. The charter rate for listings is $50 for six months, with a guaranteed first renewal rate of $50. All listings must be prepaid. Payment by PayPal is preferred.

  4. New listings are added to the top of each category at the beginning of each month, in the order received. Renewals are also added to the top of the page in the order received. During the introductory period (July 1-September 1), new listings will be posted in the order received and remain in that order through the end of September.

  10. We do not track "click-throughs" or ad responses, and make no claims or guarantees regarding potential responses to a listing.
